Graph 3-manifolds, Splice Diagrams, Singularities
We describe how a coarse classification of graph manifolds can give clearer insight into their structure, and we relate this particularly to the manifolds that can occur as the links of points in normal complex surfaces. We relate this discussion to a special class of singularities; those of “splice type”, which turn out to play a central role among singularities of complex surfaces. An appendi...
متن کاملGraph Manifolds Z-homology 3-spheres and Taut Foliations
We show that a graph manifold which is a Z-homology 3-sphere not homeomorphic to either S or Σ(2, 3, 5) admits a horizontal foliation. This combines with known results to show that the conditions of not being an L-space, of having a left-orderable fundamental group, and of admitting a co-oriented taut foliation, are equivalent for graph manifold Z-homology 3-spheres.
متن کاملGraph Coloring Manifolds
We introduce a new and rich class of graph coloring manifolds via the Hom complex construction of Lovász. The class comprises examples of Stiefel manifolds, series of spheres and products of spheres, cubical surfaces, as well as examples of Seifert manifolds. Asymptotically, graph coloring manifolds provide examples of highly connected, highly symmetric manifolds.
متن کاملThree Manifolds and Graph Invariants
We show how the Turaev–Viro invariant can be understood within the framework of Chern–Simons theory with gauge group SU(2). We also describe a new invariant for certain class of graphs by interpreting the triangulation of a manifold as a graph consisiting of crossings and vertices with three lines. We further show, for S3 and RP 3, that the Turaev-Viro invariant is the square of the absolute va...
متن کاملProfinite properties of graph manifolds
LetM be a closed, orientable, irreducible, geometrizable 3-manifold. We prove that the profinite topology on the fundamental group of π1(M) is efficient with respect to the JSJ decomposition of M . We go on to prove that π1(M) is good, in the sense of Serre, if all the pieces of the JSJ decomposition are. We also prove that if M is a graph manifold then π1(M) is conjugacy separable. A group G i...
